Yura had underestimated Iksanun. Even in his weakened state, he was still one of the Four Guardians. Perhaps the fact that she could not beat him should come as no surprise, for the Guardians were chosen to receive knowledge of the heavenly arts because they were already the greatest of mortal warriors.

-Act 3, Chapter 21

Iksanun is one of the most powerful martial artists in the Earthen Realms and selected by the heavens as one of the Four Guardians. During the era of the Naryu Empire, he worked with the other Guardians to defeat the demons and prevent the Dark Chi  from overwhelming the Earthen Realm.

He was present during the fall of Highland Central when he, along with the other Guardians were called again to stop the seepage of Dark Chi into the world after a Divine Mandate Ceremony gone wrong. When he and the other Guardians happened upon a young, dying Jinsoyun, he suggested that they kill her out of mercy, but is surprised when Jiwan instead opts to save her.

After the events surrounding Jiwan's murder and the battle between the remaining Guardians and Jinsoyun, Iksanun was left badly wounded and retreated from the world in a weakened state.

He ultimately came to reside in Greenhollow after decades of being on the run from Jinsoyun. It was there he encountered Master Hong's last student and assisted them in gathering the Life Force of all of the Great Beasts of the Eastern Continent to combat the effects of the Mark of the Black Rose. Knowing that Master Hong's student has the potential to stop Jinsoyun, he introduces them to the Skyhaven Resistance forces who work under a mysterious Commander. In order for the Skyhaven Resistance to enter the Talus Dominion undetected, Iksanun needed to open up the Skygate in Brightstone Village.

Unknown to him, he fathered a child with the Mayor of Brightstone's daughter Kuwin: a young Lyn named Ilsim. Iksanun, who had always believed that it is wise to avoid attachments in his line of work, felt responsible for the child and sought Ilsim, who appeared to be in Jinsoyun's hands. Jinsoyun tricked Ilsim into believing Iksanun is to blame for the death of his mother and the Talus occupation of his beloved Brightstone Village.

As Iksanun opened the Skygate, he realized that they had been double-crossed by Doyuhan, allowing the Talus forces and Yura into Brightstone. After defeating Yura, Iksanun demanded to know where his son was. Ilsim then stabbed Iksanun with the Twilight's Edge in the form of a dagger, filling him with Dark Chi. Jinsoyun appeared and grabbed the Twilight's Edge, reverting it back to its original form, plunging it through Iksanun's body, killing him. Iksanun then died calling out for his child.
